Why do we become sick in the first place?
Why do we become sad?
Why do we eat too much?
Why do we not eat enough?
Why do we go from diet to diet?
Why do we go from exercise to exercise?
Why do we burn the wick at both ends?
Why do we believe that a fit body means a healthy body?
Why, now more than ever, is the United States becoming so unhealthy despite all of the diets, studies, and supplements available that apparently promote health?
Why, no matter what we do, can we not seem to get healthy?

  • Health comes when we take responsibility for our lives, our choices, and how we experience life.
  • Health comes when we are aware of why we may be unhealthy.
  • Health comes when we understand what it means to be healthy by questioning everything and listening to hour body.
  • Health comes when we have respect for ourselves, our body, and the food that we choose to become part of our body – our life.
  • Health comes when we balance our life’s wants and needs.
  • Health comes when we let down our ego and open up our heart.
  • Health comes when we provide a healthy external environment to reflect our internal environment.
  • Health comes when we do not place unrealistic expectations upon ourselves, others, or our experiences.
  • Health comes when we forgive our past so we can be present in the now and work towards hour future.
  • Health comes when we stop self-sabotaging.
  • Health comes when we are not ashamed of who we are on the outside because we accept ourselves on the inside.
  • Health comes when we accept who we are, and how we came to be.
  • Health comes when we do not compare ourselves to others.
  • Health comes when we understand that we are doing our very best in every moment and that no moment is ever wrong nor a mistake.
  • Health comes when you Love yourself.
  • Health comes when you Forgive yourself.
  • Health comes when you Be happy with yourself.

Inflammation: Grains, Nuts, Seeds, & Omega 6 Fats

I bet you can guess that this post will tell you that some of your favorite foods/snacks are unhealthy. To an extent, yes… but my main point is to give you some perspective as to why these health foods aren’t so healthy after all…

Let’s start with Phytic Acid… one unhealthy property of Grains, Nuts, and Seeds. P.A. is a natural outer coating, which protects the nut and the germ/bran portion of a grain. This layer exists to ward off passer-by animals to avoid consumption because it will certainly cause digestive issues, thus allowing the plant to fully thrive/grow. What kind of digestive issues? Malabsorption (causing nutrient deficiency) and inflammation (food intolerance, food allergy, bloating, cramps, gas, fatigue, etc.). When consumed, the acid can actually bind to certain trace minerals such as Calcium, Iron, Potassium, or Magnesium and prevent the digest system from absorbing these (and other) nutrients. So, while you may be eating a healthy food, the digestive system actually cannot break down nor absorb any of the food’s healthy propertiesSoaking (8-12 hours) or Sprouting (3-4 days) Grains, Nuts, and Seeds prior to consumption can help release most of the Phytic Acid, but trace amounts may still remain.

Gluten is another malabsorption and inflammatory property, and it is found only in Grains (with the exceptions of Corn and Rice). Gluten is a Wheat Protein. The body’s digestive organs are lined with a protective mucosa layer. This layer prevents bacteria, fungus, parasites, and you-name-it from entering the body and wreaking havoc. Gluten yields antibody properties that can break down this mucosa layer and penetrate the body’s immune system. Gluten can actually create holes in the intestines and undigested food can pass freely into the bloodstream (called Leaky Gut Syndrome) – holy immune system freak out, Batman! Gluten and its anti-digestive properties can be attributed to many health and mental diseases found all over this country (and world). It makes sense because the American diet is FULL of Gluten-based foods: Bread, Pizza, Flour, Beer, Oatmeal, Cereal, Snacks and the list goes on! Now, I believe that everyone has a Gluten Sensitivity, it just depends on how sensitive a person is and how long they can tolerate its intake before health problems become prominent (a person can even have issues and not even be aware of those issues because they don’t know any different).

Omega -6 Fats, also known as Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFAs), are also prevalent in American diet with their presence in Grains, Nuts, Seeds, Above Ground Vegetables, and Beans (we’ll stick to Grains, Nuts, and Seeds for now). According to most Doctors, Hospital Journals, and the U.S. Government, Omega -6′s are healthy and anti-inflammatory. I call Bullshit! Why? Because a Omega -6′s molecular structure is highly unstable and are rapidly oxidized (rancid/spoil) at moderate temperatures and at moderate pressures – not only in cooking, heating, or food processing, but also in the heat and pressure of a 98 degree human digestive system. Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids are called Poly-’s because they have more than one double bond (extra flimsy). Monounsaturated Fatty Acids have one double bond (flimsy) and Saturated Fatty Acids yield no bonds (strong like bull!). If these Omega -6 Fats aren’t damaged prior to consumption from food processing, packaging, and transportation, they can certainly be damaged, turn rancid, and cause inflammation when consumed. Now, different Grains have different amounts of Poly’s, as well as different Nuts and different Seeds so it’s a matter of choosing a less-inflammatory one over the other, but is it really worth it in the end if they still cause inflammation to some degree?

We covered how Grains contain THREE anti-digestive/inflammatory properties, while Nuts and Seeds contain TWO anti-digestive properties. These properties can encourage acne, eczema, rash, attention deficit disorder, chronic fatigue, brain fog, dehydration, constipation, weight gain, weight loss, erectile dysfunction, lack of libido, bipolar, mood swings, estrogen dominance (stress, emotional imbalance), dysbiosis, candida overgrowth, chronic infections, low immune system response, thyroid dysfunction, insulin-resistance, sugar sensitivity, dairy intolerance, food allergy, poor sleeping patterns, and you get the point.

  • Grains to avoid: Wheat, Rye, Barley, Spelt, Quinoa, Millet, Buckwheat, Sorghum, Corn (take note that most alcohol is derived from grains/contain gluten)
  • Grains that are Ok: Rice, Gluten-free (still contains some gluten)
  • Nuts to avoid: Cashew (toxic properties), Walnut
  • Nuts that are Ok: [Soaked, Raw, Sprouted] Almond, Peanut, Brazil Nut, Macadamia Nut, Hazelnut, Chestnut, Pecan
  • Seeds to avoid: Flaxseed [Oil], Linseed [Oil], Hempseed [Oil], Cottonseed [Oil], Chia Seed, Sesame Seed [Oil]
  • Seeds that are Ok: [Soaked, Raw, Sprouted] Sunflower Seed, Pumpkin Seed

Video Clip: The Cure is U – How Can Forgiveness Heal A Disease?

The words that truly landed for me…

The reason forgiveness matters so much is because when the heart is open to focus on your innocence rather than your guilt, to focus on who you are today rather than the mistakes you made yesterday – not just giving a person the benefit of the doubt but give them a break. When the heart is softer that way then it’s an act of self interest in a way because that kind of emotional generosity doesn’t just serve the other person – it serves us. At the same time the critical attitudes, the judgmental attitudes, the “no, I will not forgive you,” doesn’t hurt you – it hurts me.

Forgiveness requires nothing in return. There are no conditions. It gets rid of old baggage and clears up unfinished business.

You want to give yourself a gift? Forgive.

Forgiveness is the highest form of letting go resentment and ego. Like love, forgiveness benefits the giver and the receiver. As Plato once said, “Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”

So the idea of forgiving ourselves and loving ourselves – that kind of gentleness towards ourselves is extremely important because whatever it is that we’ve been doing that’s dysfunctional, or that is mistaken, self-sabotaging, self-destructive, or even destructive or sabotaging towards someone else – if after I’ve done it I’m involved in a never-ending hatred of self that will actually tempt me to do it more. You know, the ego mind – the fear-based ego – is both that which sets us up to do the wrong thing and then punishes us savagely for having done it. So, gentleness towards self and others is literally a spiritual strength.

The truth about saturated fats:

gwinning:

  • Found in animal fats and tropical oils
  • Do not normally go rancid, even when heated for cooking
  • Made in our bodies from carbohydrates
  • Constitute at least 50% of the cell membranes; they give cells stiffness and integrity
  • Needed for calcium to be effectively incorporated into skeletal system
  • Protect liver from alcohol and other toxins
  • Enhance immune system
  • Needed for proper use of EFAs (essential fatty acids)

Time, Age, and Health

Image

“You are too young to be sick.”

“You are too young to be sore or in pain.”

“You are too young to die.”

I disagree that we have to “get old” with age – that we are limited in our mobility and limited in our health as we grow older. “I used to be able to do that.” Our society has built this correlation of physical failure amongst time, age, and health. This seems to hold true based on our experiences, but what if it our experiences have limited the truth?

The average person spends their youth to mid-20’s testing the limits – placing judgements on themselves through personal experiences, giving into peer pressure to feel accepted, or, ultimately, taking their physical bodies for granted. I understand that these are arrogant assumptions so please bear with me for example’s sake. We test ourselves with a diet of processed foods, with partying, not sleeping, burning the wick at both ends with school and sports and travel, seeking our own or our parent’s approval, on a continuous search to find ourselves, withholding emotions that build on top of one another over time, acting out (or in) through extremes, and constantly battling our better judgement. It’s no wonder that by our mid-20’s we’re in panic mode and our bodies begin to deteriorate – first spiritually and then physically. Yes, there is a reason why people “can’t do that anymore” when they’re “older” because their bodies can only take so much spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical negligence. There is a lot of grey area in this subject, but let me share this perspective…

Acknowledgment. Understanding. Acceptance. Appreciation. Passion. Balance.

Food As Medicine

Image

Food As Medicine

Your body uses food as fuelan easy concept.

Your body uses food as medicineoften an overlooked concept.

Our body uses the food we provide it to strengthen its immune system, to build cell walls, to rebuild muscle and connective tissue, to make new blood cells, to think, to hear, to taste, to feel, to sleep, to eat, and so on… including to type and read this blog.

Have you ever considered what type of “medicine” you are providing your body? Better yet, what foods is your body actually made up of? We renew our red blood cells every 3 months (120 days) – Do you have oreo-made red blood cells? Vodka-made red blood cells? Genetically modified corn red blood cells?

Take care of your body by giving it the appropriate medicine/fuel/energy to function properly 24/7/365. I am not suggesting to abstain from Oreos, Vodka, or GMO Corn – they’re merely examples of a suggested perspective. Understand and balance however you see fit. Sometimes you need a little Oreo blood to make ya happy.

Why Do We Get Sick?

Image

How many people do you know who are constantly sick? They’re always tired, fatigued, complaining, annoyed, frustrated, sick of being tired and tired of being sick, and they can never get “better.” I know a few people that are actually sick more often than they are healthy. I feel empathy for them and no matter how much advice I could provide them for diet, exercise, or supplements, none of it will truly fix the cause of the problem.

Soooo why do we get sick?

The immune system becomes weak and that allows viruses, pathogens, parasites, or bacteria to thrive in the environment.

But how does the immune system become weakened?

Through neglect…

- A lack of self-responsibility and/or self-respect.

We must take responsibility for ourselves, our actions, our lifestyle choices, the community we choose to be a part of, and our experiences/perceptions of all of the above. The only person we can “blame” in this situation, whether the outcome is positive or negative, is ourselves.

- An opportunity to be comforted and fulfill our ego’s want to be wanted.

Humans are needy. We need to feel loved, to feel connected, or to be payed attention to in some way. Even when we’re not being paid attention to our withdrawal is a form of attention. We must overcome our ego’s wants and stand up for our spiritual needs. The comfort or approval of others will not matter when they exist within ourselves.

- Experienced shame of the past that manifests physically in the present.

When we have a shaming experience we can choose to learn from it and let it go or to bury it and hold onto the shame. We have the ability to store our emotions within our body. For example, it is said that anger comes from a compromised liver from years of drinking and/or stress, and according to Chinese Medicine the liver yields such emotion. Why the heck do you think certain alcohols make people angry? By releasing our emotional blockages about the past it will allow us to be present in the moment (the only one that matters), and to allow our body’s natural energy to flow with ease. I believe it is possible to physically lose weight when we forgive and release our emotional weight.

- An unhealthy spiritual body that correlates to an unhealthy physical body.

When we neglect our spirit and our emotions, then our physical selves will follow suit. We must take responsibility for ourselves, we must have the perception of when our egos make decisions, and we must release the past to live in the present – all of these will allow for a healthier spiritual body which is directly correlated to a healthier physical body.

No drug, pill, herb, stimulant, depressant, hallucinogen, or placebo can ever fix the cause of a dis-ease, only the symptoms. You can find the cause within yourself.

60%

of the immune system is found in the small intestine, which is the main site where nutrients are absorbed and distributed. Inadequate nutrition or improper digestion due to food intolerances, food allergies, or poor food quality (amongst many other things) will result in a weak immune system.

So my question is: How often are you sick, run down, or have digestive problems?
